Look of the Day: Kate Moss

Ok, I am recycling from my factory of good looks. And this one is from my all time style icon, Kate Moss.

I think the vest look will still be in for the spring so this is an inspiring look for all of us, as we start making shopping lists for the good weather.

And you can still pull it off in the winter with skinny jeans, knee high boots and a cute t-shirt. Throw on a beanie and you are ready to go...

Enjoy!

Love Quotes

So I have decided that Lindsay Lohan still has amazing style power even when she is in Utah.
She comes back to LA, wearing these random scarves that are a little longer than pashminas, and this brand of scarves *overnight* becomes the hottest thing to have!

So these scarves are called (as you can tell from my blog's title) Love Quotes.

Love the style or not, the reason they are called Love Quotes is each scarf comes with a quote from a prominent leader/visionary/good-doer like Mother Theresa or Confucius. And a portion of the company's profits go to international children's organizations.

Very nice! Now I know why I would rather buy them over pashminas. Ok La Lohan, you convinced me. And they come in a wide variety of cute cute colors!

Shoe Obsession: Bottega Veneta

Hey peeps, I have seen kind of a fugly version of these sandals on Jennifer Connelly but that did not phase me. I found a beautiful version of these Bottegas to buy and to cherish

This is just the perfect pair of sandals to dress up or down. Jeans or a really nice holiday dress

Fashion Lull Day

I declare today as the fashion lull day. It is already hard to find something to be inspired by in between seasons, but today is just extra dry.
No celebrity outfits (except for fugly ones to make fun of) were worthy attention. I could just post many pictures to joke about, which we do not do on this website (at least not too much)

The only thing (so far today), I kind of liked was Maggie Gyllenhaal's make up and accessories. Her red lips, earrings and pink jacket compliment each other and make up for those fug pants and boots... and totally out of place clutch bag.

If you look at the rest of her outfit as well as Julianne Moore's fugliness (you are already pale, could you get any paler with pale clothes and beyond nude lipstick), you will realize that today is indeed the fashion lull day.

Make up tricks

I usually don't find people like Katie Holmes stylish. No matter how stylish her clothes are, she looks so stiff and looks like she is not having fun with it. I know everything she is wearing is designer this and that but I just do not think she is genuinely stylish...

But, this night (although I do not agree with her velvet curtain-like dress choice), her make up is flawless and she looks great.

Here are a few things her make up artist used:
Her eyes: Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Night Dust
Her lips: NARS Lip Lacquer in Chelsea Girls
Her skin: Armani Lumunious Silk #5 foundation

Fug Alert

Ok, normally I am pretty open minded about fashion and people taking risks and pushing "it" etc. But this is about the most fug thing I have seen in a while

The designer is Jennifer Ouellette, whom I've never heard of before but it may be because I do not care much about hair accessories. I just want to say though, even looking at it makes my skin crawl - EEEEK

Scarves Again

I have been seeing long silk scarves on many celebrities lately. Although not a fashion statement I endorse (I think a scarf like that just looks sloppy and doesn't do much else than cover a cute outfit), I will give it the limelight it deserves.
A relatively well done version by Rachel Bilson here

Look of the Day: Thandie Newton

And this woman is always one of my favorites: Thandie Newton
Her make up, hair and choice of clothes are always a little on the edgy side yet so elegant. Love it! Work it!

Mascara Galore

I used to not believe in mascara but now I think it is really a girl's best friend. It just adds so much definition to the eye-make up.
After years of exploring different mascaras my best friend has become Chanel's Inimitable. The applicator is not brush-like but has those plastic separators, which really separates the lashes while adding tons of volume. I love it!
But my best friend swears by Lancome's Definicils.
And all beauty magazines and websites RAVE about Dior's Diorshow (which I found decent but hard to apply because of the thick applicator). The great thing about it is that it does not make your lashes crusty, it is very smooth.
And a budget friendly option is Maybelline's Classic: Great Lash, that comes in the pink and green tube(I did not like the other kinds of Maybelline, i wouldn't risk experimenting.

Hot stuff: Boyfriend Cardigan

I think the most versatile, comfortable yet stylish investment for winter is a boyfriend cardigan. These cardigans look amazing with skinny jeans, played down with sneakers or played up with Louboutins.
Here's a great one I love from Intermix, by Olsen Twin's line, Elizabeth & James
Comes in navy, gray, white and black (I prefer gray but I think it is because that is the "haute" color of this season, you can't go wrong really!)

LBD with a Twist

These days I am seeing this look quite often and wanted to call it out because it is so cute!
It is your perfect LBT look with a twist. It integrates this season's thick waisted belt look very nicely.

See Eva Longoria working the look! It is quite inspiring and easy to pull off

Look of the Day

I am a huge fan of Kate Hudson's Style. This weekend she was looking lovely in wintery clothes. I don't know how she can look so effortlessly stylish...

Bubble Rings

Hmmm, perfect holiday gifts for a loved one... These sweeter than candy cocktail/ bubble rings. I think Tiffany's Paloma Picasso collection and David Yurman make the quintessential cocktail rings (but they come with a nice price tag).

Kenneth Jay Lane has some beautiful rings that might also satify your candy cravings.

Banana Republic and J Crew make some fun imitation rings that may be a budget friendly fun present to girl friends!!!

Scent of a Woman: Fendi Palazzo

New Fragrance Alert: Do you need a break from your Chanel Allure? Fendi Palazzo is a chic new replacement.
Includes essences of Bulgarian rose, orange blossoms, tangerine, bergamot, lemon, pink pepper, and jasmine. It is not flowery or overwhelmingly spicy, very balanced and memorably unique
I love it!!!

Look of the Day

Nicole Richie looks awesome here... Casual wintery chic... Love the Chanel Bag and vintage sunglasses

I am not promising anything but I am going to try to put a Celebrity look of the day, granted celebrities pull off an awesome look that day

Fly like an eagle?

Uhm, it is hard not to notice this feathery new fashion trend...
When done subtly, this may be a look to pull off... But some dresses just make you look like big bird... And be careful of that...
Here are some trends from Dsquared, Prada, Marchesa and Sesame Street respectively

Miu Miu Obsession Again

I am still not over my Miu Miu Matlesse obsession. But now I am stalking/dreaming about/saving money for this beauty which will be perfect for winter whites and/or Spring outfits...
Oh just thinking about skinny jeans with a boyfriend cardigan, ballet flats and this beauty in my arms... (drool)

Prada and Flowers

I am dying to know what people think of the new Prada Holiday 08 line. Here are some pics from the runway

This is quite a departure from their razor sharp suits and elegance. It just makes me think of country side and picnics... Oh I am so confused!
Would you wear them? I think you know what my answer is...

Naming Louboutins

I am obsessed with Louboutins... Just like any other girl who loves shoes...
and today I felt like naming them after the celebrities that they remind me of...
Which Louboutin girl are you? I think I am Sienna...

Here's Fergilicious

Here's Sienna Miller

Here's Nicole Richie

Here's Ashley Olsen

Here's Kate Bosworth

Style A to Zoe

So I can't say that I endorse Rachel Zoe and the rumors about her pushing celebrities to become anorexic... True or not true I don't necessarily care...But I have to admit that the woman has style. Whoever she dresses in Hollywood looks effortlessly chic and genuinely stylish.

And she put some tips and style advice in this lbb (little black book) called Style A to Zoe

Ok as you see the book is not black but you know what I mean... (and no I don't mean I am colorblind heheh, you funny thing!)

And I want it!!! Maybe I will learn something, anything from it. By osmosis I will become more stylish??? If you can't hire her, might as well buy the book...

Holiday Party Dresses

I always leave holiday party dress shopping to the last minute and end up wearing something from my wardrobe that was hidden in the depths of the wardrobe for a reason. So this year I have been very proactive and already picked my dress from Foley + Corinna

I also have done so much homework that I wanted to share a couple of winners with you.
I think sequin dresses this winter will be a great investment for the holiday parties. Here's a great one from Intermix
It is from Elizabeth and James, Olsen sisters' new and very successful line

And I just love this dress... From Ron Herman by Madison Marcus
Fits the holiday spirit with its emerald hue without being tacky...

My years of fashion flop holiday party advice is don't wait until the day of the party. You will not even have time for dry-cleaning! And you know it....

Gladiator Shoes Obsession

Oh it is cold out and the last thing that is in my mind when I am commuting to work is sandals. But a wise fashioneer also knows that those size 7 gems disappear before it is time to wear them so one needs to act quick and snatch those sandals before others do.

I am just obsessing over gladiators lately. I really think that they are coming back this spring/summer with a vengance. And some resort collections already started featuring some very cute ones.
This Dolce Gabbana beauty is what I am obsessing over right now.

I will definitely keep an eye out for Balenciaga as well. As pricy as may be, I think they are a great investment.

And also a designer to keep in mind for great sandals is Matt Bernson @ $150.

New Blog started

Hey all,

I have been keeping a Zeitgeist blog for a while now. I have been wanting to write about fashion in my blog but have been holding myself back because I think Zeitgeist needs to be more about art than fashion (not to say I don't view fashion as a form of art). And so I thought of starting a new blog and was surprised to see Haut Couture address was not taken. Although Haute Couture is taken, I think this will have to do... There it is, misspelled or not... Musings of a Fashion Blogger... Fashion de Jour...

This blog again, will not be about me but about beautiful clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories. It will be my lust list and must haves.

Hope you enjoy!
